TWO PODCASTS AND A BIRTHDAY

I’ve always said my life has been full of surprises, and at 94 years old, I’ve just added another: I was a guest on not one, but two podcasts—one in the U.S. and one in England. Each was enlightening, and the contrast between them was remarkable.

Yesterday, I joined The Nora D’Ecclesis Show. Nora, an American woman in Pennsylvania, and I had already written back and forth, even met on video, and she thoughtfully sent me her questions ahead of time. At first, I practiced my answers, even recorded myself, but I sounded stiff and unnatural. So, I tossed the notes aside and promised myself I’d just be me. It was the best decision. Our conversation flowed so easily, like catching up with an old friend—only this time, thousands of listeners were along for the ride.

Today’s podcast from the U.K., however, was a very different adventure. Thanks to a time zone mix-up, I found myself on camera an hour earlier than expected, talking with a charming young host whose name I never even caught. He worked with a publishing company—though not the one that published my book—and most of his questions centered on writing, motivation, and promotion. It may have been some sort of promotional spot for their own work, but it didn’t matter. Once again, it turned into a pleasant chat, easy and relaxed. And if they run it? Wonderful. If not? Well, you can’t win them all.

And here’s the best part: both podcasts happened right around my birthday. Not a bad way to celebrate 94 years on this earth—two new adventures, two new stories to tell.
